Joyful, quirky, original contemporary art

inspired by the beauty of the everyday

just for

YOU

Hello, I’m Brigitte

and I love to paint light hearted and whimsical, imagined still life, flowers, plants and memories.

A woman in glasses and an apron is painting with watercolors at a table in an art studio. The background features colorful abstract paintings hanging on the wall.

I am a self-taught contemporary artist working from my home studio in Suffolk, UK. I was born in Woodbridge, Suffolk so I haven’t moved far!

I celebrate in paint the beauty of the ordinary and everyday. Those precious small moments of whimsy and charm, often unnoticed and overlooked. The mundane and domestic, specifically the table.

This is where I see and feel the underlying beautiful narrative of life, whether busy and messy or quiet and still. I notice and respond to the seemingly insignificant as precious and important. The pleasure lies in the ordinary and familiar. Gathering around the table to eat, converse, think, cry, read, play and celebrate.

Vignettes of simply being in this world. The humdrum necessity of it all.

Working primarily with acrylic paint and mixed media, I don’t plan much. Instead, I create intuitively, from my imagination, until the painting chooses to reveal itself. I build layer upon layer, creating a beautifully textured surface full of past ideas, scratches, scrapes, washes, marks and colour.

I find this way of painting makes me really happy. It's a free-flowing process where the painting decides what it wants to be. It's my way of capturing the joy and spontaneity that comes from being creative in the moment.

I particularly enjoy creating objects that don’t balance or make sense and appear to float. It amuses me and I hope it might amuse you too, bringing a smile to your face!

I am delighted to have my paintings on walls in the USA, Switzerland, Spain, Australia and across the UK.

I case you’re interested, here’s just a little bit more about how I came to be an artist!

Collection of colorful paintings and sketches hanging on string with clothespins, including floral and portrait artwork, in an art display or studio setting.

As I mentioned above, I was born in Woodbridge, Suffolk, but I grew up in nearby Framlingham, spending my childhood wild and free exploring the surrounding countryside with friends and my family dog, Sam.

After studying Psychology at the University of Exeter and subsequently gaining a PGCE, I began teaching in primary education. This suited me well as I had my two, now adult children, to nurture too! Once my children were more independent, I retrained as a florist and ran my own floral design business for fifteen years or so. I became internationally recognised for my pioneering use of seasonal, locally grown, pesticide-free flowers, creating loose, garden-inspired arrangements that celebrated the fragility and imperfection of nature. My work attracted students to join my one-to-one classes and residential workshops from across the UK and as far afield as Hong Kong, Canada, the USA, Malaysia, and Europe.

Person painting a abstract still life on paper with acrylics, using a thin brush, with open containers of yellow, black, red, and other paints on a wooden table, wearing a green sweater and paint-splattered apron.

In June 2022, in my mid fifties, while on my annual holiday in Cornwall, I returned to my early love of art and soon after began painting full-time. As a self-taught artist, I have undertaken several online courses and one or two in person workshops to support my continued development. My work has since featured in various solo and group exhibitions, and I am a member of Suffolk Open Studios.

I am currently represented by ‍Cambridge Contemporary Art and The Gallery, Maldon.

I also offer art workshops in my home studio and can be hired to present artist talks and art demonstrations.

I am a tutor for Art Safari in Woodbridge, Suffolk
